Nagashima Kenjo – Five Breweries, One Spirit
On the island of Nagashima in Kagoshima, Nagashima Kenjo creates one of the region’s best-known sweet potato shochu: Satsuma Shimabijin.
What makes the spirit truly distinctive is how it is made. Rather than producing the shochu in a single distillery, Nagashima Kenjo brings together five local breweries, each making its own shochu according to traditional methods. Their spirits are then carefully blended, matured and bottled according to a blend established when the company was founded.
The result is a spirit that belongs not to one producer, but to an entire island community. Satsuma Shimabijin is known for its gentle sweetness and approachable character, reflecting the natural richness of Kagoshima’s sweet potatoes while remaining remarkably easy to enjoy.
For Nagashima Kenjo, tradition is something shared. Five breweries, one island and one unmistakable expression of Satsuma shochu.
Five breweries. One island. One spirit.
